Collection: About

I am Anne-Marie, illustrator and self-confessed nostalgic.
It was when I became a mother that I started illustrating the memories I wanted to keep close. Little everyday moments, looks, gestures… Nothing extraordinary at first glance, but they took on a whole new meaning once drawn. I found that illustration had this power to add beauty to emotion, to make attachment visible.
For a long time, I thought nostalgia was a flaw. Something sad, something to avoid.
Then one day, I heard Michel Barrette say that nostalgia is beautiful. That through a song, an object, or an image, we can dive back into a time, a happy moment, the memories of those we’ve loved.
It deeply moved me. I realized that nostalgia is a bridge. A bridge between generations, between the past and the present. And I decided to make it my world.
My dad is also a great nostalgic. I think I get that from him. I’ve always loved listening to him tell me his memories. It doesn’t take much (a song, for instance) for his stories to come flooding back. When he talks, I feel like I’m there too. And it’s beautiful.
Today, that’s what I try to do with my illustrations: bring memories back to life at their most beautiful. Yours, mine, and ours collectively.
Because nostalgia is something to be shared.
And it keeps alive what deserves not to be forgotten.
